At the KUZENG LISTENING SESSION, Duygu & Derya take the time to delve into their musical memories together: What music shaped their childhood? What did they listen to back then, what do they listen to today—and what has stayed with them? They’ll talk about songs, voices, and stories that have stayed with them, about music that preserves memories, connects different eras, and brings people together.

And who knows—maybe there’ll even be a musical performance or two from the two of them that evening!

Derya Yıldırım and Duygu Ağal are cousins.

Their shared history begins in their childhood: They spent a lot of time together at music school and in bağlama classes, while their parents, uncles, and aunts recited old poems and made up new ones at home. Music and setting texts to music brought the families together. This shared history continues to bring the cult Hamburg duo back to the stage time and again to this day.

They began writing their first song lyrics at the age of eight. Many years later, they are still writing together—most recently for the album *YARIN YOKSA // IF THERE IS NO TOMORROW* by Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek, released in 2025.

Today, both live in Berlin and work as musicians and writers. What does their shared musical history mean to them today? What role does music play in their lives.
